Different types of bets at rouletteThe type of bet you make at the roulette table determines to a large extent your chances of winning. There are different types of bets that allow you to bet on a single number or a combination of numbers. The payout for each type of bet is related to the number and distribution of these numbers.
Inside Bets on Roulette
The payout for bets on the inside of the playing field is high, but the chance of winning with these types of bets is relatively low. You bet on a small number of numbers.
- 6 numbers (5:1)
With an inside bet you can bet on a maximum of 6 numbers. The bet is placed at the intersection of two rows of three numbers. This bet is also called Double Street or Transversal simple.
- 5 numbers (6:1)
This bet is only possible in American Roulette and is generally considered the worst possible bet. The house edge is 7.89%, which is higher than the standard house edge of 5.26% in American Roulette. The bet is placed at the intersection of 0 and 00, and the row with numbers 1, 2 and 3. The bet on 5 numbers is also known as Basket Bet.
- 4 numbers (8:1)
If you place a bet at the intersection of 4 numbers, this is a Carré or a Corner. The chance that the ball falls on one of the 4 numbers is not that big, but there is a payout of 8 times your bet in return.
- 3 numbers (11:1)
A Street Bet or Line Bet is a bet on a street of 3 adjacent numbers. The bet is placed on the outside of the first or last number. You can also bet on the 0 (and in American Roulette the 00), in which case the bet will be placed at the intersection of the three numbers.
- 2 numbers (17:1)
With a Split, or Cheval, you can bet on two numbers lying horizontally or vertically next to each other. Because the chance of one of these numbers being rotated is not that high, you will get a relatively high payout for it.
- 1 number (35:1)
If you bet on a single number, by placing the chip or money inside the box of one number, then this is a Square of Straight. This bet has the highest payout of the roulette game at 35 times your bet.
