Outside bets, which are located on the outside of the playing field, are more likely to win, but the payout is considerably lower than for inside bets. The bets are placed in special boxes that indicate the type of bet using images or the name.
There are two types of bets where you get paid twice your winnings:
- Dozen (2:1)
As the name suggests, you bet on 12 numbers. These can be the 12 high numbers (1-12, Premiere douzaine), the 12 medium high numbers (13-24, Moyenne douzaine) or the 12 low numbers (25-36, Dernière douzaine).
- Column (2:1)
When betting on a column, you also bet on 12 numbers, but these are not consecutive. You choose a column that lies from top to bottom on the inner playfield. The boxes for this are indicated with the text ‘2 to 1’.
- Equal money bet
The following bets consist of half of the total number of numbers, excluding the 0 and 00. The chance of winning is therefore about 50%, so the payout is fixed at one time your bet.
- Red/Black (1:1)
This bet is clear: you choose either all black numbers or all red numbers. The boxes for this bet usually simply consist of a red box and a black box, sometimes marked ‘red’ and ‘black’.
- Even/Oneven (1:1)
Again, the stakes speak for themselves: you bet on all even or odd numbers. The English words ‘odd’ and ‘even’, or the French words ‘pair’ and ‘impair’ are used.
- Low/High (1:1)
Finally, you can choose to bet on the 18 lowest numbers or the 18 highest numbers. These two bets can also be indicated with ‘1 to 18′ and ’19 to 36’.
